Finland is Most Prosperous Nation

Financial Times says Finland is most prosperous: [FT.COM]

Now, I can understand prosperous, but most prosperous in the list of all nations, wow! My first feeling is, well, confused. And my second feeling is joy over such a ranking. My third, however, is one of some criticism as I feel the prospects of a prosperous future for Finland are not as well-based as I would like them to be!

The question comes to mind: how well does the Financial Times' measuring method measure sustainability? But perhaps I digress. After all, what difference does it make. Aren't nation's brought up and taken down by God, and not man. What can our own trouble add to it?

In any case, the future of Finland is by no means bleak. But I wouldn't go as far as to say it is the best in the world - even in terms of "prosperity", whatever that means. But perhaps that's only because I'm a Finn myself.

The biggest problem in all modern western countries is the age structure, which, as you may know, isn't getting better but rather the opposite. For Finland, it looks like this: [diagram].

The small but noisy bunch of young citizens are feeling an increasing burden of supporting a system that may not even be up-to-date with today's standards. And in any case, the oldies are still holding on to all the main jobs, which has been a problem not least because the young generation can't take the reins unless they are available first. Some collaboration on the part of the old generation is needed.

But, 'nuff said. I belong to the one third that generates all the tax income in this country, I have to go to work.

"And Jehovah thy God will make thee plenteous in all the work of thy hand, in the fruit of thy body, and in the fruit of thy cattle, and in the fruit of thy ground, for good: for Jehovah will again rejoice over thee for good, as he rejoiced over thy fathers;" Deut 30:9
